So I was listening to the John Tesh Radio Show on 102.3 the River last night and he said something that struck a chord with me…he said the reason most people don’t find a healthy relationship or job is because they might be a narcissist. I thought about this for a minute and wondered if this could be applied to network marketing and the industry in general. Let me explain.
When most people begin their Network Marketing business they have dreams of massive success right away, everyone is saying “of course, I would love to join you…” and life is going to be perfect…right. Well sadly this is not the case for most of us. We tend to have that mentality or expect it and when it does not go our way we quite. Well I have news for you, if you want to truly succeed at Network Marketing than you need to get rid of that narcissistic attitude right now. You are not entitled to ANYTHING! You have to earn every dollar you make in the business, that’s what makes it so great…you are paid what you are worth, not what you will accept to stay.
So how can we combat this “disease” and truly achieve those goals we initially set out for ourselves? Well I’m glad you asked. I am not an expert in this area so I would not listen to a word I am about to say…but if you do here is what I would suggest:
1. Make it a habit: One reason we quite so fast is we “try” something for about a week or two and see that it doesn’t work. I would sit down and write out some things you can do on a daily basis to achieve your ultimate goal, and than begin to do those each and everyday. Here is an example, I wanted to learn how to play the drums fairly well, so I decided I would need to practice an hour a day doing specific exercises. The first couple of days were easy. Than towards the end of the week I no longer wanted to do it because I was not recieving the desired results…but I pressed on.
As you begin to do what you must, over time you will see the results you are looking for. Nothing worth anything is easy. You must work for an extended period of time in order to get what you want. If you can do that than you must really want it.
2. Have the mindset of success: If you start out think you are going to try this and see what happens you will fail. Achievement doesn’t come until the thing you are doing becomes a must. You must do this and there is no other option.
Success is not an end result but the journey we all go through. Enjoying the process of the success is much more rewarding. Focus on where you want to be, want you want to do, how you want to live on a daily basis. This should be so ingrained you don’t know any other way to live or be. By focusing on what you want in life and recognizing what you don’t want you can begin to take those steps closer to your goals.
I hope this quick post has helped bring your potential narcissism to light. If you posses this trait…now you know what to do to begin eliminating it. Remember we are not entitled to anything no matter what anyone tells you. Prove to yourself that you want your dreams bad enough and they will be within your reach.
Your Freedom And Success,
Joel
